'Cats fall short vs. BYU

Despite falling into a deep hole early, the Weber State University women's basketball team battled to the final horn, but ultimately came up short against in state rival BYU, falling 70-54 on Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Center.
Senior forward Caitlin Anderson led Weber State with 12 points, while sophomore forward Amanda Hughes added 11 points for the Wildcats, who had a two game winning streak snapped with the loss and fell to 3-4 on the season.
Junior center Karlee Weight added eight rebounds, a season high, for Weber State, while junior forward Mikell Woodfield and sophomore guard Mariah Metoyer each added seven points for the 'Cats.
BYU, which improved to 7-3, jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three minutes and led 20-4 at the second media timeout.
The Wildcats shot a season-low 24 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game shooting just 14 of 50 from the field.
WSU trailed 43-20 at halftime.
Weber State, led by a strong interior effort did get to the line 28 times, but converted just 18 of those attempts.
The Wildcats held a 41-37 rebounding advantage, including gaining 16 offensive boards.
Next up for the Wildcats is Oregon State on Tuesday at Noon at the Dee Events Center. That game is Field Trip Day for Weber State, with more than 5,000 northern Utah area youths expected to be in attendance.
