OGDEN, Utah -- Despite a hard-fought effort, the Wildcats couldn't quite close the door on Monday night. Battling toe-to-toe with Big Sky Conference-leading Montana State at the Dee Events Center, the Weber State University women's basketball team came up just short, falling 66-56 to the Bobcats. The Wildcats out-rebounded Montana State 38-36 and held the Bobcats under their season average of 70.8 points per game. Montana State, however, held a commanding 40-22 advantage in points in the paint, as Weber State struggled to finish in the low post, despite getting quality opportunities. |
Sophomore guard Megan Patterson led Weber State with 20 points, knocking down six 3-point field goals - her second highest total of the season from long-distance. Patterson also matched her career-high with five rebounds.
Senior forward Caitlin Anderson added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists in another solid all-round game from the team's lone senior.
Freshman point guard Justine Johnson had six rebounds, six assists, five points and three steals for Weber State.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 11-4 lead early, and battled with the Bobcats to head into the locker room tied at 24-all.
The Bobcats scored the first five points of the second half and would never trail again, although Weber State kept within single digits for all but a handful of seconds in the second half behind the hot shooting of Patterson.
Weber State (0-3 Big Sky, 4-11 overall) will host its fourth straight home game on Thursday night when defending league tournament champion Portland State comes to town for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Dee Events Center.
The Wildcats will wrap up their current five-game homestand on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Northern Colorado.
