'Cats break through with road sweep of NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - In resounding fashion, the Wildcats finally broke through.
Junior outside hitter Bethany Wray had 17 kills and freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Clark added 12 as the Weber State University women's volleyball team swept Northern Arizona 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 on Saturday night at the Rolle Activity Center, closing out the match in just 85 minutes.
The win is the first of the season for the Wildcats (1-7 Big Sky, 1-19 overall), who snapped a 19-match losing streak.
Weber State hit a season-high .254 and had 11.5 team blocks, while outgaining Northern Arizona (3-4 Big Sky, 13-4 overall) 46-34.
In addition to her match-best 17 kills, Wray added nine digs and three blocks. Clark, whose decisive kill ended the match, had five blocks and reached double-figures kills for the second time in three matches.
Redshirt-freshman Ashley Orr had a career-high eight blocks for the Wildcats, while freshman libero Shelby Earl had a career high 17 digs.
The 3-0 road sweep is the first for Weber State since sweeping Montana State on Nov. 20, 2010.
The Wildcats hit .300 in the first set, getting 17 kills on 40 attempts, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Weber State had 12 kills and seven blocks in the second set, hitting .250, in seizing control of the match, and then closed the door with 17 kills on 42 attempts (.214) in the final set.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday against Portland State. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Swenson Gym.
