Wildcats edged by Vikings

HILLSBORO, Ore. - Portland State's Amanda Dutra scored in the 12th minute, leading the Vikings to a 1-0 victory over the Weber State University women's soccer team on Thursday afternoon at Hillsboro Stadium.
The match was a defensive battle, featuring just 15 total shots and seven shots on goal between the two teams.
Dutra's goal came after a free kick from Toni Carnovale, which she took left and hit a crossing shot into the upper right side of goal.
Portland State improved to 3-1-2 in Big Sky play (7-7-2) and edged ahead of Weber State (3-2-1, 5-10-1) and Northern Colorado into the top spot in the league standings.
The Wildcats finished with seven shots, placing four on frame. Seniors Jessie Baddley (3) and Collette Simmons (2) led the way.
The Vikings had eight shots, putting three on frame.
Weber State will wrap up the 2011 regular season on Sunday, Oct. 23, at Wildcat Soccer Field. The Wildcats can still clinch a berth in the four-team postseason tournament with a win over the Hornets.
Sunday's match will be the final home match for Weber State's nine seniors, who will be honored during the match.
