GREELEY, Colo. - The Big Sky Conference season appears to have brought out the best in the Wildcats.
Senior forward Jessie Baddley dribbled between two defenders and knocked home a shot in the 102nd minute, lifting the Weber State University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Northern Colorado in double overtime on Friday night at Jackson Stadium.
Baddley's goal came on the 17th, and final, shot of the night for Weber State, and is her second match-winning goal of the 2011 campaign. It was also the only shot recorded for either team during the 11:40 of overtime.
"It's always a challenge to win games on the road in conference," Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. "The girls played hard until the end, just like they have been doing all season. We will enjoy it tonight and turn our focus to (Northern Arizona) tomorrow."
Weber State outshot Northern Colorado 17-15, including a 9-7 advantage in a first half that saw the Wildcats stake out a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by senior midfielder Collette Simmons.
Simmons spot kick came in the 14th minute and was her second goal of the season.
The Bears pulled even in the 78th minute as JJ Wykstra headed in Kimmie Feidler's corner kick to level the scoreline at 1-1 and set up the exciting finish.
Weber State (4-8-0 overall) improves to 2-0-0 in Big Sky action for the first time since 2008, which was the last time the Wildcats claimed the Big Sky Conference regular season championship, with both matches coming away from home.
The Wildcats will remain on the road through Sunday when they will take on defending regular season champion and preseason favorite Northern Arizona (1-1-0 Big Sky, 2-8-4 overall) at 1 p.m. at Lumberjack Stadium.
