EUGENE, Ore. - Despite multiple career-best performances, the Weber State University women's basketball team wasn't quite able to lock down its first win of the season on Thursday night.
Senior guard Caela Mohre drained a career-high 21 points for the Wildcats, who fell 88-73 to the University of Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena to kick off the Global Sports Cage Classic.
Mohre connected on 5-of-7 attempts from behind the arc, and finished with a career-high eight baskets overall.
Sophomore guard Jordan Pfau added a career-high 13 points, splashing in three 3-pointers on five attempts, and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.
Junior forward Amanda Hughes also notched a career-best, pulling down 13 rebounds.
As a team, Weber State had a season-high 54 rebounds and out-rebounded the Ducks 54-49, the first time this season the Wildcats have had more rebounds than their opponent.
Megan Patterson, Laura Palmere, Mikell Woodfield, and Justine Johnson each had seven points for Weber State (0-4).
The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, with Oregon responding with a 14-0 surge to take a 14-4 lead with 13:07 left first half.
Weber State kept the deficit in single digits for much of the first half until a late run by the Ducks pushed it to 46-32 at the break.
The Wildcats trailed by as many as 28 in the second half, before using a pair of strong surges, including a 12-0 spurt, to cut the deficit back to 11 points.
Weber State will face the second game of its three-game, four-day stay in Oregon when it takes on Nicholls State at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Matthew Knight Arena.
