OGDEN, Utah -- The Wildcats made sure their lone senior walked off the court at the Dee Events Center as a winner.
Despite playing in deep foul trouble for much of the contest, senior forward Caitlin Anderson knocked down 18 points and corralled eight rebounds, leading the Weber State University women's basketball team to an 81-68 victory over Sacramento State in Big Sky Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Anderson, a fifth-year senior from Reno, Nev., will leave the Purple and White as the No. 12 all-time scorer in school history, amassing 1,218 points in 108 career games. She is currently No. 10 in school history in rebounding (682) and needs just two more rebounds to move into ninth place. She is also the most accurate 3-point shooter in school history, knocking down 41.1 percent of her shots from behind the arc. That mark is the fourth-best percentage in Big Sky Conference history. Sophomore guard Megan Patterson led Weber State with 21
points, the fourth time this season Patterson has eclipsed 20 points. The Columbus, Mont.-native knocked down four 3-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws.
Sophomore forward Amanda Hughes racked up her third double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
Junior center Mikell Woodfield added eight points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats, while freshman point guard Justine Johnson had six rebounds, five points and five assists against just one turnover in 31 minutes of action.
"I'm just really proud of the effort we gave today," Taylor said. "Sacramento State comes after you with their pressure and you have to be disciplined against it, and for the most part today we were."
Weber State led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 21-6 lead after less than nine minutes of action. The Wildcats led 38-26 at halftime, led by Patterson's 10 first-half points.
Weber State pushed its lead to as much as 19 in the second half before settling for the 13-point win.
The Wildcats' 81 points are the second most that Weber State has scored this season, trailing only a 90-point effort against NAIA-foe Montana-Western back in December.
"Our goal coming into these last four games was to go 4-0," Anderson said. "Our goal is always to win, and we're halfway to that goal. We still want to win two more."
Weber State (7-19 overall, 3-11 Big Sky) will wrap up its 2010-11 season on the road next week, taking on arch-rival Idaho State on Thursday night in Pocatello, Idaho, before a rematch with the Hornets on Saturday, March 5 in Sacramento, Calif.
