Women's soccer signs 14 players to NLIs

OGDEN, Utah -- Weber State University women's soccer coach Tim Crompton is proud to announce the signing of 14 players to National Letters of Intent.

The 14 signees represent the largest women's soccer signing class in school history.

"Here at Weber State, we have an outstanding tradition and a successful history, and these young women will have a chance to build upon that tradition as well as add to its history," Crompton said. "The potential for this group in combination with the returning players is unlimited, and should be a very special team."

Signing with the Wildcats are: Stacy Bair, Olivia Bitner, Chansi Crompton, London Crown, Jaymee Frye, Mackenzie Harrison, Brecken Holbrook, Danielle MacKay, Joanna Matyjasik, Kellyn Olsen, Shaylee Petersen, Erin Swenson, Leah Wood, and Marissa Yamane.

All 14 players join Weber State from the northern Utah area. Thirteen played club soccer for Layton, Utah-based LaRoca FC, which has won numerous local, state and regional tournaments since its inception. LaRoca is the four-time defending Utah State Cup champion in its age group, and has advanced to the knockout stage of regionals each year. The team has participated in the U.S. Youth Soccer National League, comprised of the top four teams in each USYS region for the past two seasons and finished fourth in 2011.

Bair, a 5-foot-6 forward, joins Weber State from Sky View High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner. She is a three-time all-state selection, and was twice named as the Herald-Journal Player of the Year.

Bitner, a 5-foot-5 outside defender, joins Weber State from Layton High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Lancers. She was also a member of the Utah ODP.

Crompton, a 5-foot-6 central midfielder, joins Weber State from Fremont High School, where she was a three-year letterwinner for the Silver Wolves. She was a three-time all-region, all-area and all-state selection.

Crown, a 5-foot-11 outside midfielder, joins the Wildcats from Northridge High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Knights. She was also a member of the Utah ODP.

Frye, a 5-foot-5 defender, joins Weber State from Northridge High School, where she was a three-year letterwinner for the Knights. Frye was also a five-year member of the Utah ODP.

Harrison, a 5-foot-5 forward, joins the Wildcats from Davis High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Darts. She was a four-time all-region, all-area and all-state selection.

Holbrook, a 5-foot-10 central defender, joins Weber State from Syracuse High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Titans. She was a four-time all-region, and three-time all-area selection.

MacKay, a 5-foot-5 goalkeeper, joins the Wildcats from Davis High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner. She was a three-time all-region and all-area selection, and a two-time all-state selection.

Matyjasik, a 5-foot-7 central midfielder, joins Weber State from St. Joseph Catholic High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner. She was a four-time all-area and three-time all-state selection for the Jayhawks.

Olsen, a 5-foot-8 defender, joins the Wildcats from Clearfield High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Falcons. She was named second-team all-state as a senior and was Clearfield's defensive MVP as a junior and senior.

Petersen, a 5-foot-5 defender, joins Weber State from Bountiful High School, where she was a four-year starter and letterwinner. She was an all-region and all-state selection as a senior. Petersen was also a four-year member of the Utah ODP.

Swenson, a 5-foot-7 outside midfielder, joins the Wildcats from Davis High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Darts. She was a starter and a team captain for the Darts.

Wood, a 5-foot-6 defender/midfielder, joins Weber State from Bountiful High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner, and helped guide the Braves to region titles as a freshman and senior. She was all-region and second-team all-state as a senior, and an all-state honorable mention as a junior. Wood played her club soccer for Forza FC.

Yamane, a 5-foot-4 midfielder, joins the Wildcats from Clearfield High School, where she was a three-year letterwinner for the Falcons. She was also a second-team all-state selection as a senior and named to the academic all-state team.
