‘Cats defeat Lumberjacks, advance to Big Sky Final

Missoula, MT - The Weber State Wildcats women's soccer team defeated the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 2-1, securing their spot in the Big Sky Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon.
"I think the first half we did a lot of good things." Head Coach Kyle Christensen said, "At this point in the year, we talked about laying it all out there and knew the requirement was going to be doing everything we could."
The Lumberjacks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a 7th-minute goal.
The Wildcats had their chances to equalize in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net. These chances included a Sayler Schlosser shot that was punched out in the 11th minute, Presley Ray having her shot saved in the 25th, and Brynlee Meyerhoffer missing wide as the clock expired in the first half.
Coming out of halftime, the 'Cats went on the attack. Presley Ray, who was named the Big Sky Newcomer of the Year on Tuesday, picked the pocket of an NAU player and won the 1-on-1 with the keeper to equalize in the 56th minute.
12 minutes later, Brynlee Meyerhoffer received a pass from Grace Kirby at the top of the box that she chipped in for the 2nd Wildcat goal of the day.
The goal was Meyerhoffer's 5th of the season and the 1st game-winning goal of her career.
The win advances the Wildcats to the Big Sky Conference Tournament Championship for the first time since 2021, when the 'Cats fell to Montana 1-0.
With a win on Sunday, the Wildcats will clinch their first Big Sky Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.
On Sunday, the Wildcats will take on the winners of #1 Montana against #5 Idaho. Streaming will be available on ESPN+ with live stats available at WeberStateSports.com.
