Wildcats Drop Eighth Straight Match

POCATELLO, Idaho -- The Weber State women's tennis team dropped its eighth-consecutive match to open the season on Wednesday, as Big Sky rival Idaho State took a 5-2 decision in non-league action at the Reed Gym Indoor Courts.
The Wildcats narrowly missed grabbing its first win of the year, dropping some close matches that could have swung the score in their favor.
WSU challenged for the doubles point despite being swept in all three matches on the day. Brittiny Moore and Ashley Tanner dropped a tight 8-6 match to Katharina Marsela and Laura Porras in the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while Thais Kurer and Carly Lloyd took Zamira Vazquez and Rachel Ryan to an extra game before falling 9-7 at No. 3.
In singles play, Moore got some revenge over Marsela, easily dispatching ISU's No. 1 player by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Kurer grabbed WSU's second point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ryan, joining Moore in rebounding against a doubles opponent with a victory in singles.
Annika Karlsen and Michelle Warwick each jumped out in their matches with a first set victory, only to fall with three-set losses at the No. 3 and 4 positions, respectively.
The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1:00 p.m. with a home match at the Ogden Athletic Club. Weber State will be looking to earn its first win of the season in that match as they open up conference play against Northern Arizona.
