PORTLAND, Ore. -- The University of Portland won two of three doubles matches to produce the deciding point in a narrow 4-3 win over the Weber State women's tennis team on Thursday afternoon.
Brittiny Moore and Ashley Tanner defeated Alice Tucker and Emily Mahairas 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles match, but the Pilots dominated the No. 2 and 3 matches to grab the point.
In singles play, the Wildcats were able to split the six matches, but came up one win short of turning the match in their favor. Portland won the top three matches, while Thais Kurer, Michelle Warwick, and Annika Karlsen each won for Weber State.
Kurer defeated Tucker 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 4 match, and Karlsen got past Mahairas 7-6, 6-3 at No. 6. Warwick provided the final WSU point of the day, taking a 6-7 (0-6), 6-3, 10-4 three-setter from Gabrielle Gorence.
Weber State will return to Big Sky play on Friday, matching up against Portland State at 11:00 a.m.
