Wildcats drop tough 1-0 decision to Utes

OGDEN, Utah - The Weber State University women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with in-state rival Utah on Saturday afternoon, but the Wildcats came up just short.
Despite ringing up a season-high shot total, the Wildcats fell 1-0 to in-state rival Utah at Wildcat Soccer Field.
"We are right there; we possessed the ball well," Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. "We had a couple of opportunities where we were just one pass away."
Weber State finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots, including an 11-4 advantage in the second half.
The Wildcats were especially solid going forward in the final half-hour of the game as they repeatedly threatened in the attacking third. Weber State recorded eight shots during a 25 minute span late in the second half.
Utah (3-1-1) got on the board in the first half after Weber State failed to fully clear a corner kick and it landed at the feet of the Utes' Allie Wisner. Wisner fired a shot through traffic that struck the wet turf and bounced under goalkeeper Ryann Waldman's best efforts to corral it to make it 1-0 in the 25th minute.
The Wildcats possession advantage started paying off in the second half as it became crisper with its passing and forced the Utes to spend more time chasing the ball.
Freshman forward Mackenzie Harrison came up with one of Weber State's best scoring chances of the afternoon in the 84th minute when she broke through traffic and unleashed a shot from 14 yards out, but Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke made a diving save to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
Weber State (0-4-0) will take on in-state rival Utah Valley on Wednesday 3 p.m. at Wildcat Soccer Field, kicking off a whirlwind stretch of three matches in five days in three different states.
