Wildcats swept by Bobcats in Big Sky play

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Redshirt freshman outside hitter Rebecca Fuchs had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, but it wasn't quite enough to lift the Weber State University women's volleyball team to a victory.
Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Biggs added six kills for the Wildcats, who fell 25-23, 25-11, 25-19 to Montana State on Saturday night in Big Sky Conference action at Shroyer Gym.
Junior middle blocker Briana Wilms had five blocks, while redshirt freshman middle blocker Audrey Gee and senior middle blocker Dama Cox each had three blocks. Cox also had three service aces.
Senior setter Caitlin Penrod added 19 assists and three blocks for the Wildcats.
Weber State fell to 1-5 in Big Sky Conference play (7-10 overall), while Montana State improved to 4-2 in league play and 10-4 overall.
The Wildcats and Bobcats battled in the first set, which featured seven ties and three lead changes. Weber State opened up a seven point lead (17-10) on a kill by Gee, but the Bobcats rallied with an 8-0 surge to take a 19-18 lead.
The Wildcats led 23-22 on a Wilms' ace, but the Bobcats scored the final three points to take the set and a 1-0 lead.
Montana State surged out to an early lead in the second set and Weber State wasn't able to cut into it as the Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The teams traded points early in the third set, with the Wildcats leading 8-7 and then sitting in a 12-12 tie, but the Bobcats scored six of the next seven points to lead 18-13 and WSU couldn't recover.
Weber State will be back in action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. as it travels to face Idaho State at Reed Gym in Pocatello, Idaho.
