Wildcats beat Bears 79-54 to start 3-0 in Big Sky

OGDEN - Weber State won its fourth straight game and improved to 3-0 in Big Sky play with a 79-54 win over Northern Colorado Thursday night at the Dee Events Center. The Wildcats never trailed in route to the 25-point victory, their largest ever against Northern Colorado, and improved to 7-0 all-time against the Bears in Ogden.
WSU jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and led 18-8 with 13:50 to play in the first half. The Wildcat lead was not less than 10 points the rest of the way. Northern Colorado never got closer than 14 points in the second half and Weber State led by as many as 32.
Scott Bamforth led the Wildcats with a season-high 22 points on 8-14 shooting, including 5-7 from three-point range. He knocked down his first four three-pointers in the game and moved past Alex Fisher into fourth on the Weber State career three-pointer list.
Gelaun Wheelwright added 13 points off the bench for the Wildcats. Kyle Tresnak had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds and Jordan Richardson also added 10 points for Weber State.
"I thought we were very unselfish and moved the ball well tonight and I was really pleased with our effort," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "We moved the ball well and did a nice job of executing and playing with good toughness on defense. It was a good team win with a lot of people contributing."
Weber State shot 54 percent from the field and held the Bears to 37 percent shooting. WSU was 9-19 from three-point land. Northern Colorado did outrebound Weber State 35-31 but the Bears committed 21 turnovers on the night to fall to 3-8 and 1-2 in conference action.
Weber State improves to 8-3 on the season and 3-0 in league play. The Wildcats will host North Dakota Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
