Wildcats fall to Montana State in three sets

The Weber State volleyball team was swept by Montana State on Saturday night at Swenson Gym. The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-15 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.
Audrey Biggs led the Wildcats with 10 kills in the game while Samantha Staker racked up 31 assists in the three sets. The Bobcats were led by Kennadie Clute who had 15 kills in the match Loni Kreun added 11 kills for Montana State while Anna Sykoda had a match high 41 assists.
“I thought we had better energy and better looks than we did last night (4-set loss to Montana),” head coach Tom Peterson said. “I thought we were scrambling and trying hard to finish this match and that's an improvement.”
Montana State jumped out to a big lead early in the first set before the Wildcats steadily climbed back into the match amidst a couple of timely time outs called by Peterson. Weber State climbed to within two points later before the Bobcats pulled away for the 25-22 win in the set.
It was a similar story in set two where Montana State got ahead early and stayed ahead all the way until the Wildcats tied the set at 24 late. Weber state held a 26-25 lead before the Bobcats stormed back to take the set, 28-26.
The third and final set was back and forth early before Montana State pulled away and never looked back to pick up the 25-20 set win and clinch the match.
“We really want to thank the crowd,” Peterson said. “Whether we've been losing or not, they've been there for us. They're just waiting for us to do something.”
Audrey Hunter added eight kills for the Wildcats in the defeat. The Bobcats had 10 blocks in the match while the Wildcats had nine.
Weber State will be in action again on Wednesday night at home at Swenson Gym on Wednesday night when it hosts Idaho State at 7:00.
