Tough Second Half Dooms Wildcats in Cedar City

The Weber State women's basketball team started out its latest Big Sky road trip with an 18-point loss at Southern Utah on Thursday night.
The Thunderbirds pulled away in the second half to take home the 72-54 win. The win improves the Thunderbirds to 11-11 on the season, while the Wildcats' fell to 0-22 with the loss.
Both teams had two scorers in double digits. The Wildcats were led by freshman forward Regina Okoye and freshman guard Des Ramos who had 12 and 10 points respectively.
Meanwhile, Southern Utah was led by their leading scorer and the game's leading scorer, Hailey Mandelko who finished with 18 points. Sofia Hepworth added 15 points to bolster the Thunderbird offense.
Weber State was once again outrebounded fairly handily, 46-33. Taylor Anderson led all rebounders with 12 boards. Kalie Matthews and Carlee Lough both had five rebounds to lead the Wildcats.
Weber State shot better, with a 37.8 field goal percentage on the night. Southern Utah didn't shoot much better at 39.4 percent, but the Thunderbirds hit seven three-pointers. Southern Utah shot 43.8 percent from beyond the arc, while the Wildcats shot just 18.2 percent from three-point range.
Southern Utah outscored the Wildcats in the paint by a 33-22 margin.
Weber State turned the ball over 26 times to the Thunderbirds 22 turnovers. Southern Utah capitalized on those 26 Wildcat turnovers with 31 points off of them while the Wildcats only turned in 19 points off the Southern Utah turnovers.
Weber State will take the weekend off before making the Montana road trip, first to Bozeman to play Montana State on Valentine's Day and then Montana on February 16.
