LOGAN, Utah – For the second-straight week the Weber State football team was blown away by an FBS school, as the Wildcats fell 70-6 to Utah State Saturday night at Romney Stadium.

The 64-point defeat is the second worst loss in Weber State history, one point worse than the 70-7 loss at Utah last week.

Utah State totaled 587 yards of total offense in the game, compared to just 138 for Weber State. The Wildcats had just seven first downs on the night and had just 34 yards passing.

The Aggies started their offensive explosion early, scoring their first touchdown less than five minutes into the first quarter. Chuckie Keeton found D.J. Tialavea for a five-yard touchdown pass. It was the first of five touchdown passes for Keeton in the first half.

The Aggies scored two more times in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

They added four more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 49-0 lead at halftime, the second-straight week the 'Cats have trailed 49-0 at the break.

Utah State had 372 yards of offense in the first half, compared to just 30 for the Wildcats as WSU had just one first down in the half.

The second half started with a driving rainstorm but the Aggies continued their dominance in the third quarter ever after Keeton left the game. Utah State scored three times in the first five minutes of the half and led 70-0 with 9:59 to play in the quarter.

The next possession Weber State was finally able to get some offense going, picking up two first downs and driving to the Utah State 36-yard line before a fumble turned the ball back over to the Aggies.

Neither team scored again until late in the fourth quarter. After a bad snap by Utah State with less than a minute to play, Weber State's Spencer Unga picked up the ball and ran 38-yards for a touchdown to put the Wildcats on the board. However the extra point kick was blocked and the game ended 70-6.

Individually, freshman Austin Chipoletti got his first collegiate start as Jordan Adamczyk was held out due to injury. Chipoletti finished the night 12-20 passing for 34 yards. He also rushed the ball nine times for 28 yards.

Josh Booker led the Wildcat rushing attack with 15 carries for 45 yards. Cameron Livingston had one catch for 16-yards, the lone Wildcat with more than 10 yards receiving.

On defense, senior Anthony Morales led the way with 13 tackles, all coming in the first half. Chris Jones added eight tackles and Adam Padilla had seven.

Tony Epperson recorded 12 punts for the second-straight game, finishing with 479 yards for an average of 39.9 per punt.

For Utah State Keeton finished the day 19-25 passing for 249 yards and five touchdowns in just one half of play.

“I'm disappointed in some of the mistakes we made tonight and the way we executed,” said WSU head coach Jody Sears. “We made some mistakes on both sides of the ball and we have several things to improve. Utah State is a terrific football team and you can't afford to make mistakes against a team like that.”

Weber State (1-2) will finish its three-game road trip next Saturday at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. The Wildcats will open Big Sky play Sept. 28 against Sacramento State at Stewart Stadium.
