The Weber State women's basketball team dropped its fifth conference game of the season, falling to in-state foe Southern Utah in Cedar City, 76-64.
Senior forward Amanda Hughes led the way for the Cats, scoring 17 points, continuing her Big Sky tear.
Weber State got off to a 9-2 start before the Thunderbirds came roaring back behind a 23-2 run. Trailing by 14 at that point, the Wildcats never recovered from that big SUU push.
Sophomore guard Desiree Ramos added 15 points in the Wildcat effort and freshman guard Elizabeth Mounier tallied 11 points on three 3-pointers.
Southern Utah's Carli Moreland led the game with 19 points, leading the Thunderbirds to their third conference win on the season (3-2).
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 0-5 in conference play and 4-10 overall.
The Cats shot better than they did in their previous two games, shooting 39 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range. Southern Utah, however, shot 46 percent from the floor and 47 percent from behind the arc.
Both teams shot 23 free throws each, the Thunderbirds making 17 while the Wildcats made 14.
The biggest difference in the game came in the paint where the Thunderbirds outscored Weber State, 34-20.
The Thunderbirds also outrebounded the Wildcats, 40-33.
Weber State did a good job pushing the ball up and down the court, winning the transition game by outscoring the Thunderbirds on the fast break, 10-2.
Both Hughes and sophomore center Jalen Carpenter tied SUU's Lori Parkinson for the game-high in rebounds with 7 each.
Weber State will not play over the weekend before traveling to Pocatello for a Monday night matchup at Idaho State. Tipoff for that game is set for 7 p.m.
