Wildcats win fifth straight 68-63 over Montana

OGDEN – Davion Berry's 25 points and Joel Bolomboy's 19 rebounds led the Wildcats to a 68-63 win over Big Sky rival Montana Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
The win wrapped up a four-game homestand for the Wildcats who improved to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in Big Sky play with their fifth straight victory. WSU remains in a tie for first with Northern Colorado at 7-1.
The game saw 15 lead changes and the score was tied 11 times. The game was tied 50-50 with 9:19 to play, when the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run and would never look back. Montana cut the lead down to four points with 1:40 to play but Weber State was able to hold on for their fourth straight home win against the Grizzlies.
Berry continued his hot play by tying his season-high with 25 points. The senior was 9-17 from the field and pulled down five rebounds to go along with three steals and two assists. Berry scored 98 points in the four game homestand for the Wildcats and has scored 20 or more points nine times this season.
Bolomboy recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds, with 14 rebounds coming in the second half. He continues to lead the Big Sky in rebounding at 10.7 rebounds per game. He has reached double figures in rebounding 10 times this season, including eight of the last nine games. He is averaging 12.4 rebounds per game in Big Sky games.
Freshman Kyndal Hill came off the bench to tie his career-high with 11 points and was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Kyle Tresnak had 10 points and five rebounds, to go along with three blocked shots.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game and it was,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “It was a grind but we were able to find a way. We showed some mental toughness and made a couple more plays down the stretch.”
Weber State shot 46.9 percent from the field and held the Grizzlies to 42 percent shooting. WSU also outrebounded Montana 37-29 and dished out 15 assists.
The win gives the Wildcats 24 straight Big Sky regular season home victories.
After playing six of their first eight Big Sky games at home, the Weber State now hits the road for eight of the final 12 conference games, beginning Thursday at Northern Arizona.
