OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State women's volleyball team started their last road trip of the season on Thursday. The Wildcats traveled to take on the in-state rival Southern Utah in hopes of winning their first-ever match in Cedar City.
The Wildcats were unable to get any sort of momentum going as the Thunderbirds won in three setes, 25-18, 25-11, 25-21. The loss drops their record to 6-19 overall, 2-9 in Big Sky play.
“They did a good job to keep us out of system and that really hurt us on our ball control,” WSU head coach Tom Peterson said. “We played much better in the third set and made it competitive. But we can't let this loss determine how we play the rest of our matches this weekend. We need to keep our head up and keep battling.”
Megan Thompson and Audrey Biggs led the Wildcats will five kills each. Biggs did lead the team with 10 digs, while Thamires Cavalcanti added nine. Jesse Hover and McKay Tarbox had matching stat lines with seven digs and one service ace. Taylor Christensen led the Wildcats with 21 assists while adding 6 digs.
The Wildcats hit a season-low -.043 and only had 24 kills to SUU 28. SUU dominated the net with 16 blocks, led by the 10 blocks by Ann Clappier.
The Wildcats will now travel to take on Northern Arizona on Saturday, November 1. The Lumberjacks will enter the match on a two match-losing streak after losing in five sets to Idaho State on Thursday evening. The first serve is set for 7p.m.
