OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State women's volleyball team took on Montana State in their last away match of the season on Thursday night. Both teams entered the match having won 35 matches a piece in the all-time series. The Bobcats were able to break the tie with a four set victory over the Wildcats, 25-15, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16.
The loss drops the Wildcats record to 7-23, 3-12 in Big Sky Conference play.
“They frustrated us and I think that is why they won the match,” WSU head coach Tom Peterson said. “We tried a lot of different players and just couldn't get anything going. We had too many errors in the third and fourth set to beat a team on their home floor.”
The Wildcats struggled to find any offensive rhythm as they didn't have a player over 10 kills and hit a season-low .026. Audrey Hunter, Ciera Borho and Amanda Varley all had six kills. While the Big Sky leader in kills, Audrey Biggs, was held to a season-low two kills on 20 attempts. Megan Thompson was used in the attack often with 17 attacks and five kills. Hunter also added a team-high five blocks.
Taylor Christensen had a team-high 30 assists while adding four digs, four blocks and three kills. McKay Tarbox had nine digs which moved her to sixth for most digs in a season. Her total of 442 past Kaytie Thorpe who had 440 in 1989.
The Bobcats dominated in every statistical category including kills, 49-34, and assists, 48-32. Mistakes hindered the Wildcats throughout the whole match.
The Wildcats will host Idaho State for their final match of their season on Saturday, November 15. First serve is set for 7p.m. The five seniors, Biggs, Tarbox, Amber Garrett, Emily Hairgrove and Hannah Schorr, will be honored before the match.
