Wildcats open exhibition season with 80-57 win

OGDEN – Five players scored in double figures as Weber State opened the exhibition season with a 80-57 win over St. Katherine Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
The Wildcats led 43-27 at halftime and never trailed by less than 16 in the second half. The Wildcats shot 49 percent from the field and held the Firebirds to 37 percent shooting WSU also outrebounded St. Katherine 40-30 and the Wildcats shot 80 percent from the field. Weber State had 17 turnovers on the night.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Wildcats led by junior college transfer Chris Golden who finished with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Jeremy Senglin added 14 points, Kyndahl Hill had 12 and Richaud Gittens scored 11. Joel Bolomboy had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
“I thought this was a typical first exhibition game,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “We settled down better in the second half and were able to get some things done. We have a lot of players that haven't played before and there were some nerves out that but I thought overall our guys did a good job and played hard.”
The Wildcats will host one more exhibition game next Saturday, taking on Western State. That game will begin at 2 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
The regular season will begin Nov. 14 at Utah State with the home opener set for Nov. 17 against Presentation College.
