Wildcats open season with record-setting night

Weber State beat West Coast Baptist 130-38, the largest margin of victory in school history.
OGDEN - Weber State opened the 2025-26 season in dominant fashion Monday night, racing past West Coast Baptist 130-38 at the Dee Events Center. 
The 92-point win is a new Weber State and Big Sky Conference record for margin of victory.Â
The 130 points ties the WSU school record for most points in a game.Â
Weber State had 78 rebounds, which is the fourth most in a game in WSU history and the most team rebounds in a game since 1971.Â
The 'Cats also made 18 3-pointers, tied for the fourth most in a game in WSU history.Â
Weber State led wire-to-wire against the Eagles and led by as many as 96 points.Â
The 'Cats scored 70 points in the first half and led 70-16.Â
Weber State shot 53 percent from the field and knocked down 18 three-pointers while holding West Coast Baptist to just 20 percent shooting overall and 2-of-36 from beyond the arc. The Wildcats forced 24 turnovers, converting them into 41 fast-break points and 66 points in the paint. They also controlled the boards with a 78-30 rebounding advantage and scored 29 second-chance points.
All 12 Wildcats that played scored in the game and six players reached double figures.Â
Trevor Hennig led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Jace Whiting added 19 points and five assists, and David Hansen, in his first game as a Wildcats, had 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from deep.Â
Senior Nigel Burris was 5-for-6 from the floor for 14 points and seven rebounds.Â
Declan Cutler had 13 rebounds and Malek Gomma grabbed 12.Â
Freshman ArDarius Grayson made an impressive debut with nine points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
Freshman Bourgeois Tshilobo added 12 points and six rebounds in just 13 minutes of play. In total, Weber State's reserves combined for 62 points.
The Wildcats now hit the road for their next three games, starting Saturday at the University of Utah. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m. at the Huntsman Center and the game will be on ESPN+.Â
