Wildcats roll past Bristol 109-59

OGDEN – Weber State wrapped up 2014 and closed the non-conference season with a dominating 109-59 win over Bristol University Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. The Wildcats improved to 5-6 with the win as they prepare to start Big Sky Conference play next week.
Bristol led by as many as eight early in the game and made five of their first six 3-point attempts. The Wildcats finally got things going and closed the half on a 39-11 run to take a 53-33 lead at halftime. WSU shot 74 percent from the field in the half and made six 3-pointers.
After two quick Bristol buckets to start the second half, the Wildcats rolled off a 29-2 run over the next six minutes and never looked back. WSU led by as many as 56 points and the 50-point win is the tied for the 10th largest win in school history.
“We got off to a slow start but once we got going we really played well,” said WSU head coach randy Rahe. “We needed a game like this and got some confidence going heading into conference play. We shared the ball and shot the ball really well.”
The Wildcats shot 70 percent from the field and finished 15-of-21 from 3-point land. WSU also held Bristol to 35 percent shooting and the 'Cats outrebounded the Bears 37-25. The Wildcats also had a season-high 29 assists.
WSU had four players in double figures led by sophomore Richaud Gittens who set a new career-high with 25 points. He was 8-of-12 from the field, including a perfect 5-of-5 from 3-point range. He also added six assists and five rebounds.
Jeremy Senglin added 20 points and was 9-of-10 from the field. He also added six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Chris Golden added 15 points and made three 3-pointers and Joel Bolomboy added 13 points and nine rebounds and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.
Bristol University out of Anaheim, Calif., is in its first year of completion was led by Brandon Chavers with 14 points.
Weber State will open 2015 and the 18-game Big Sky Conference schedule on Thursday, Jan. 1 at Eastern Washington. WSU will also play at new Big Sky member Idaho on Jan. 3 before returning home to host Montana on Jan. 8.
