Four Wildcats scored in double figures as Weber State snapped a two-game losing streak with an 86-68 win at Montana State Saturday night in Bozeman.
With WSU's win and Northern Colorado's loss at Sacramento State, the Wildcats now hold a two-game lead with four conference games remaining. WSU now sits at 15-9 overall and 12-4 in Big Sky play.
Montana State held an early 10-7 lead but the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to take the lead and they would never look back. After MSU cut the lead to six early in the second half, the Wildcats went on a 7-0 run and went on to lead by as many as 21 in the second half.
The Wildcats shot 58 percent from the field, the third best shooting performance of the season. They also held the Bobcats to 37 percent shooting. Weber State was 10 of 17 from 3-point range and outrebounded the Bobcats 34-30.
“I'm really proud of our effort tonight,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “We didn't give up after two road losses and that would have been easy to do. They fought really hard and played with a lot of energy and passion. We defended really well and looked like our old selves again.”
Davion Berry led the way with 20 points, the 15th time he has scored 20 or more this season. Berry was 4 of 8 from the field and a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. He also became the 28th player in WSU history to reach 1,000 career points.
Senior Jordan Richardson added a season-high 19 points for the Wildcats. He was 6 of 10 from the field and knocked down three 3-pointers. Richaud Gittens added 14 points and Jeremy Senglin had 12. Joel Bolomboy had five points and once again reached double figures with 11 rebounds.
After four straight road games, the Wildcats now return home for their final two home games of the season as they host Sacramento State Thursday and Northern Arizona Saturday. If the 'Cats win both games they will clinch at least a share of the Big Sky title.
Weber State has won 26-straight Big Sky regular season home games, tied for a conference record. The winner of the regular season title will host the Big Sky Tournament March 13-15.
