WSU Bounces Back with Win over Colorado-Mesa

NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team rebounded from a tough loss to Utah State with a 6-1 win over Colorado-Mesa on Saturday night at the Eagle Ridge Tennis Center.
The Wildcats swept the doubles matches to earn the opening point, and then took five of six singles matches to put the contest away.
Oliver Good and Sanjay Goswami defeated Jordan Lyden and Spencer Weinberg in the No. 1 doubles match 8-3, Todd Fought and Jakub Gewert beat Cody Freischlag and Blake Demond 8-5 at No. 2, and Landon Barlow and Caio Poitena defeated Andres Garcia-Rojas and Trevor Brown 8-5 in the No. 3 spot to complete the sweep.
Goswami got the Wildcats rolling in singles play with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win over Garcia-Rojas in the No. 3 match, and Fought soon followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lyden in the No. 1 match to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
Poitena won at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Weinberg in the No. 2 match, and James Smith and Dylan Hansel won at No. 5 and 6, respectively, to wrap up the scoring for the Wildcats.
Smith defeated Demond 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-3), while Hansel scored a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Brown.
"This was a much more enjoyable match for us than this morning," said WSU head coach Brad Ferreira. "It was a good chance for us to show some depth with Dylan, Ryan and James playing for us and winning some points."
The Wildcats improved to within a match of .500 with the win at 5-6 overall on the season.
