Wildcats knock off Bobcats 65-62

OGDEN – Weber State won its second-straight Big Sky game with a 65-62 victory over Montana State Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. With the win the Wildcats improve to 7-8 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
Montana State jumped out to a quick eight point lead seven minutes into the game but Weber State responded with a 10-0 run to take its first lead. The Wildcats held a 32-29 lead at halftime as MSU scored six points in the final minute of the half.
The Bobcats led by as many as eight in the second half at 46-38 with 12:20 left. Once again the Wildcats responded, posting a 13-1 run over the next four minutes and never trailed the rest of the way.
Montana State outshot the Wildcats 48 percent to 36 percent and the Bobcats outrebounded the Wildcats 31-29. MSU also made nine 3-pointers on the night but the Bobcats had 19 turnovers.
“It wasn't pretty but we were able to find a way to win,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “Montana State played really tough but we were able to respond and find a way. I thought we showed some good poised and didn't panic and stayed the course.”
Three Wildcats scored in double figures led by Joel Bolomboy with 17 points and 11 rebounds, his fifth double-double of the season. He was 5-of-13 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line and added three blocks and one steal in 37 minutes.
Jeremy Senglin added 15 points and Richaud Gittens had 14 points and as 4-of-4 from 3-point range.
At halftime of Saturday's game Weber State retired the jersey of former Wildcat standout Willie Sojourner (1968-71), making him the first Wildcat with his jersey retired.
Weber State returns to the road next week for two games playing at Northern Arizona Thursday and at Southern Utah Saturday.
