Okoye steals a record, 'Cats fall 53-43

MIssoula, Mont. – The Weber State Women's basketball team fell 53-43 to Montana on the road Thursday night.
The Wildcats fell behind 8-0 early in the first half. The took the lead for the first time with five minutes left in the half but weren't able to maintain and went into halftime trailing only 23-21. The Lady Griz commanded the second half, increasing their lead by 15 at one point and ending the game with a final score of 53-43.
Regina Okoye broke the career steals record with her six on the night. She now has 220 in her time as a Wildcat. The previous record of 214 career steals was held by Karleen Peart who played for Weber State from 1981-84. Okoye currently holds the steals in a single game record with her 10 against San Diego earlier this season. She is continues to lead the nation with steals per game averaging 4.15 a game.
Junior Jalen Carpenter had her fifth double double this season and the game highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Carlee Lough had her season high with her eight points on the night. Zakiyyah Shahid-Martin added seven rebounds for the Wildcats.
Weber State shot 25 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three and 62.5 percent from the free throw line. Montana shot 34 percent from the field, 60 percent from beyond the arc and 61.1 percent from the free throw line. The Wildcats were outrebounded 38-49 and only had 14 turnovers to Montana's 19.
The Wildcats will hit the road for the first time in four games and head to Montana State Saturday Jan. 10 to continue Big Sky play before hosting Northern Arizona Thursday, January 15 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
