OGDEN – Slowly but steadily, junior midfielder Chansi Crompton has been climbing the Wildcat and Big Sky Conference career assists record table.

On Sunday afternoon, with the Weber State University women's soccer team needing a critical home field result against Portland State, she was at her dazzling best.

Crompton assisted all four Wildcat goals, tying the Big Sky Conference single-match assist record, while shattering Weber State's career assist record as the Purple and White steamrolled the Vikings 4-1 in league action on Sunday afternoon.

“The girls were focused today on both sides of the ball,” said Weber State coach Tim Crompton, whose team scored four goals in back-to-back matches for the first time since 2006. “Credit goes to the players. All the players. They brought the best out of each other today. Abbey Clayton, our fifth-year senior, was a rock in the middle today.”

With its second consecutive win, Weber State improved to 3-3-0 in Big Sky play (7-7-1 overall) and is tied for fourth in the league standings with four matches remaining. The top six teams in the final regular season standings will earn a berth in the Big Sky Conference tournament during the first weekend of November at the site of the league's top seed.

Crompton, who now has 23 career assists, started the day trailing former Wildcat great Rochelle Hoover by one assist for the school's career record, and equaled that mark in the 12th minute when she dished off to senior forward Mackenzie Harrison to level the scoreline at 1-1 early.

She assisted Harrison again in the 31st minute and assisted senior forward Stacy Bair in the 36th minute as the Wildcats led 3-1 at halftime.

Harrison and Crompton appeared to hookup again in the 50th minute after Harrison crushed an 18-yard shot into the back of the net, but another Wildcat player was judged to be involved in the play in an offside position and it negated the score.

Bair had another shot find the back of the net in the 60th minute, but the Wildcats were again adjudged to be offside, negating the finish.

Weber State finally punched in the decisive fourth goal in the 72nd minute, when Crompton burned around the corner, shaking her defender loose, and firing a ball into the center of the box where redshirt freshman midfielder Celeste Wheelwright converted to make it 4-1.

The four goals were the most ever scored by the Wildcats against the Vikings, while the win snapped an eight-match winless streak in the series that dated back to the 2008 season.

Crompton is currently tied for the second-most assists in Big Sky Conference history, sitting two behind former Idaho State star Annamarie Hofstetter for the league's all-time mark. The four assists, all of which were primary helpers, tied the single-match Big Sky record as she became just the third player in the 19-year history of the league to accomplish that feat. She is the first to do it in a league match.

Weber State will return to action next Sunday when it hosts longtime arch-rival Montana, in a battle of the two original Big Sky Conference powers, who rank No. 1 and No. 2 in all-time conference results.

The match will serve as Weber State's senior day, with the Wildcats' seven seniors set to be honored.
