OGDEN -- The Weber State men's basketball kicked off the season with the annual Purple and White Game Wednesday night at the Dee Events Center. Weber State's five returning players and a big group of new players saw action in the first public scrimmage.
“It was great to get out and play in front of a crowd tonight and that really helped our team progress,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “Our veterans and new players were a little nervous to start the game but we settled down and did some good things. The team is doing everything we ask them to do and everyone is playing together and with great passion and that will make us better.”
Joel Bolomboy and Kyndahl Hill each led the Wildcats with 13 points. Bolomboy, the only senior on this year's squad, added seven rebounds and was 6-of-10 from the field. Hill had five rebounds and was 5-of-7 from the field. Junior Jeremy Senglin had nine points and Richaud Gittens had five.
Several new players had strong performances for the 'Cats. Red shirt freshman center Zach Braxton had nine points and four rebounds and sophomore Dusty Baker added six points, six rebounds and three assists.
The Wildcats will hold one exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 7 as they host Southern Virginia at 7 p.m. The regular season begins Nov. 13 as WSU hosts Utah State.
Weber State was picked to finish first in the Big Sky preseason coaches poll for the seventh time in the last eight years.
