Weber State falls 3-0 to Sac State

OGDEN, Utah –Weber State University's volleyball team dropped a quick three sets to Sacramento State Saturday night in the Swenson Gym.Â
"Even though we had some nice individual performances tonight I am dissappointed by the way our team decided to work tonight," head coach Jeremiah Larsen said. "Hopefully we'll learn from this match and learn the value of hard work."
In the first set of action Sacramento State went jumped out to an early 5-12 lead. The Wildcats brought the score within four but the Hornets went on an 11-1 run before claiming the first game 25-13.
The second set started out in a neck and neck battle with the Hornets up 9-8. The Wildcats kept the score within four for most of the second set but Sac State capitalized on WSU errors and claimed the set 25-18. During the second set Megan Thompson had a 1.000 percentage with five kills off five attacks. Weber State trailed two games to zero going into the third and final set.
After the half time break Sac State jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. Thamires Cavalcanti got the Wildcats started with a service ace that was quickly followed by a kill by Amanda Varley. The Hornets committed a few errors which brought the Wildcats within three. But Weber State couldn't catch up and fell 25-19.
Weber State was led by Thompson who had eight kills and 13 attacks for a .538 percentage. Tanisha Langston had a .357 percentage with five kills and 14 attacks while Anne Corrigan had three kills and four attacks for an even .500 percentage. Taylor Chirstensen-Kinikini had the game high of 25 assists and the game high of six digs.
Both Sac State and Weber State had six team blocks. Sac State out dug Weber State 35-19. The Hornets ended the match with a .402 percentage and the Wildcats had .185.
Weber State is now 5-10 overall on the season and 1-3 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats will now embark on a four game road trip with games against North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. Â
