OGDEN - Utah State used a big run late in the second half and held on to beat Weber State 73-70 Friday night at the Dee Events Center in the season opener for both teams.

The Aggies led 35-32 at halftime but the Wildcats started the second half on a 5-0 run to regain the lead. There were eight lead changes in the second half. Weber State went up four at 58-54 with 8:38 to play but Utah State went on a 15-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 69-60 lead with 3:39 remaining.

From there the Wildcats had a 10-1 run to cut the lead to one at 71-70 with 16 seconds left. After two USU free throws, Dusty Baker's 3-point attempt missed to end the game with a three point Aggie win.

“We played a very veteran team tonight and had a tough time during a few stretches,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “Our team is going to continue to get better. We have to bounce back and get ready for the next one. We have a tough preseason schedule and I know this team will get better.”

Both teams shot 45 percent from the field but USU outrebounded Weber State 35-30. The Aggies had 34 points off the bench.

Joel Bolomboy and Jeremy Senglin each scored 20 points to lead Weber State. Bolomboy had 20 points and 12 rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting. Senglin was 6-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Junior Dusty Baker added 11 points while Richaud Gittens had eight off the bench. Freshman McKay Cannon added seven points.

Weber State now hits the road to play at South Dakota State Monday night at 6 p.m. MT in Brookings, S.D. The 'Cats will host the University of Antelope Valley Thursday at the Dee Events Center.
