Weber State wins Gulf Coast Showcase

ESTERO, Fla. -- Weber State won the Gulf Coast Showcase Championship with a 75-59 win over Murray State Wednesday night in Estero, Fla.
“This was a huge win for us and I couldn't be happier for our team,” said Weber State head coach Randy Rahe. “It was another big team effort. It was a great team effort and we got a lot of help from a lot of players. Jeremy (Senglin) was terrific again and got in a great flow and rhythm. This is a great tournament win for our program.”
Jeremy Senglin continued his hot hand by scoring 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting with six rebounds. He was named the Tournament MVP after averaging 25 points a game and shooting 62 percent from the field in the three games. He also knocked down 15 3-pointers in the tournament.
Weber State senior Joel Bolomboy finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds to record his sixth double-double in six games. Bolomboy was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 15.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in the three games.
There were four ties and nine lead changes in the first half. Murray State led 30-26 with 5:27 to play but Weber State closed the first half on a 14-5 run. The Wildcats shot 61 percent from the field in the first half.
Murray State cut the lead to four at 46-42 with 15:20 to play when the Wildcats reeled off a 17-2 run over the next six minutes and led by as many as 19 points in the second half. The Racers were never closer than 13 the rest of the way.
The Wildcats shot 56 percent from the field and held Murray State to 39 percent shooting. The 'Cats also knocked down nine 3-pointers and dished out 16 assists.
Dusty Baker added 11 points and made three 3-pointers in the win and freshman Cody John had eight points and three assists off the bench.
The tournament title is Weber State's first preseason tournament championship since winning the Big Island Invitational in 2001.
Weber State (4-2) returns home to host Pacific Union Tuesday at 7 p.m. before taking on BYU on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
