'Cats come from behind for last second 55-57 win

PORTLAND, Ore – Weber State women's basketball team came from behind and picked up a two point victory over the University of Portland. With four seconds left on the clock Regina Okoye scored a layup to give the Wildcats a 57-55 win.
"We faced a tough Portland team tonight that was physical and well prepared," head coach Bethann Ord said. "Our kids played with resilience, overcame adversity throughout the game, and competed for all 40 minutes. This was a gritty road win for us that we look to serve as a catalyst as we head back on the road next weekend."
In the first quarter Portland started out with an 11-5 lead. Weber State ended the quarter with an 8-6 run bringing the score to 13-17.
With 6:20 on the clock in the second quarter Brittney Dunbar sunk a 3-pointer bringing the score within one point. A layup by Okoye gave the Wildcats the lead for the first time in the game. The Pilots went on a 7-4 run to end the half with a 29-26 lead over the Wildcats.
Early in the third quarter Weber State recaptured the lead at 8:30. The Wildcats went on a 7-2 run to give them a six point lead, the largest of the night. Portland took over the lead with two minutes left in the third but Weber State tied the game at 40-40 to end the quarter.
Weber State maintained the momentum in the fourth quarter. WSU had the lead the majority of the quarter although the Pilots weren't going down without a fight. WSU had a five point lead with 1:34 remaining in the game but the Pilots went on a 5-0 run tying the game up at 55-55 with 12 seconds left on the clock.
Okoye came through for the Wildcats in the end scoring a layup with four seconds left to give the Wildcats the 57-55 victory.
The Wildcats were led by Okoye with 21 total points for a new season high. She shot 66 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line.
Deeshrya Thomas also scored in double digits having 11 points on the night. Quinn added eight points for the Wildcats and Dunbar contributed seven.
Okoye and Jocelyn Adams had game highs of eight rebounds each. Kailie Quinn also pulled down six rebounds for the Wildcats. Thomas had the gamew high of three steals and Adams had the game high of three blocks.
Weber State shot 41.2 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line. The Wildcats had 13 turnovers to the Pilots 17. There were six lead changes during the game and the score was tied 5 times.
Weber State is now undefeated on the road with a 3-0 record and are 4-1 overall on the season.
