SACRAMENTO, Calif – Weber State women's volleyball dropped another well fought match to Sacramento State in four sets Thursday evening with scores of 9-25, 18-25, 25-20 and 17-25.
"I'm proud of the way we didn't quit," head coach Jeremiah Larsen said. "It would have been easy to lay over and die after the first set. However we picked ourselves up and started to compete. We wouldn't have done that a month ago."
In the first set the Hornets jumped out to an early 9-3 lead and then went on a 16-6 run to end the first set 25-9.
In the second set the Wildcats started to fight back with several tie scores early in the set with the last one at 8-8. Sac State went on a 6-2 to take the lead but a kill by Amanda Varley and one by Andrea Hale kept the score within two points. Weber State couldn't catch up and the set ended 25-18.
Weber State's best set of the night. The Wildcats fell behind 5-3 but a couple of Hornet errors and a service ace by Megan Thompson tied the score back up at 5-5. The two teams were back and forth until and remained tied until 12-12. WSU then went on a 8-2 run to take its largest lead of the night at 20-15. The Wildcats continued to push forward and claimed the third set with a 25-20 victory.
The fourth set did not go in favor for the Wildcats as the Hornets claimed a 10-3 lead. Weber State fought to the end but couldn't claim another set and fell 25-17.
Varley had the game high of 11 kills and 36 attacks.  Hale was close behind with 10 kills and 31 attacks. This was Varley's 11th time having double figure kills and Hales sixth. Thompson led the Wildcats with four blocks on the night. Thamires Cavalcanti had 17 digs and Taylor Christensen-Kinikini had 12. Weber State had five team blocks to Sacramento State's 11.
Weber State drops to 5-20 on the season and 1-12 in conference play. They take on Portland State Saturday for the final road game of the season before returning home to take on Montana State and Idaho State for the final home games of the season.
