OGDEN - Joel Bolomboy's double-double helped Weber State open Big Sky Conference play with a 77-56 win over Idaho State Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
Bolomboy scored 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds for his nation-leading 13th double-double in 14 games this season.
The Wildcats never trailed and led by 16 points at halftime and the lead was never less than 11 points in the second half. It was Weber State's ninth straight win over the Bengals in Ogden.
Weber State shot 44 percent from the field and held ISU to 32 percent shooting. The 'Cats also held Idaho State to just one 3-pointer and had 15 assists on the night. The Bengals outrebounded Weber State 40-39.
Freshman Zach Braxton had 11 points and a career-high seven rebounds and Kyndahl Hill added 11 points off the bench. The two, along with Bolomboy, accounted for 47 of Weber State's 77 points and the 'Cats had 30 points in the paint.
“Our team really bought into the game plan and played great transition defense,” said Weber State head coach Randy Rahe, who coached his 300th game at Weber State. “Overall our defense was very good and our bigs did a great job inside. We missed some shots offensively but our defense led the way and that's what you need in conference play.”
Weber State (9-5, 1-0) is back home for two more conference games next week, hosting North Dakota Thursday and Northern Colorado Saturday.
