'Cats beat Bengals 34-28 in regular season finale

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Wildcats did what they needed to. Weber State picked up a 34-28 win over Idaho State Saturday afternoon at Holt Arena to keep its playoff hopes alive.
The win gives the Wildcats a 7-4 overall record, its best since 2009. WSU also finished 6-2 in Big Sky play and alone in third place in the conference standings, the highest finish since 2009.
Weber State will now wait to see if it will receive an at-large berth into the FCS Playoffs. The playoff selections will be announced Sunday at 9 a.m. on ESPNU.
"I'm really proud of how we played and being able to get the win," said Weber State head coach Jay Hill. "We played really hard and made the plays we needed to. The fake punt was the play of the game that gave us some momentum. I'm proud of what this team has done this season. Winning seven games and finishing third in the conference standings is a great accomplishment."
WSU trailed 21-17 at halftime but outscored the Bengals 17-7 in the second half. The Wildcats faced a fourth down at their own 32 yard line when momentum switch. Jacob De Maio rushed for 22 yards on a fake punt and on the next play, Jadrian Clark found Andrew Vollert for a 46-yard touchdown pass that put the Wildcats up 24-21 with 5:44 left in the third quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Clark found Drew Batchelor for a 48-yard touchdown that extended the lead to 31-21.
Idaho State cut the lead to six after a touchdown with 4:23 to play, but the 'Cats were able to run out the clock and seal the win.

Weber State totaled a season-high 544 yards of offense and rushed for a season-high 226 yards. Idaho State totaled 442 yards of offense with 362 yards passing.
It was a back-and-forth first half. The Wildcats started the scoring with a one-yard TD run on its first possession to take a 7-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, ISU got on the board with a touchdown and tied the game 7-7.
Late in the first quarter, Treshawn Garrett scored on a two-yard run to make it 14-7, but once again, Idaho State responded with a 21-yard touchdown catch by KW Williams to tie the game early in the second quarter.
After a touchdown was called back for a penalty, Weber State stretched its 17-14 after a 28-yard field goal by Taylor Hintze. But on the first play of its next possession, Idaho State's quarterback Tanner Gueller connected with his brother Mitch Gueller for a 75-yard touchdown and the Bengals led 21-17 at halftime.
Individually, Clark finished the game 22-of-33 passing for 318 yards and two touchdowns. Batchelor led the receivers with six catches for 108 yards, while Vollert had six for 90 yards.
Haini Moimoi led the 'Cats on the ground with a career-high 101 yards rushing on 15 carries. Landon Stice had seven tackles to lead the Wildcats. WSU had nine pass breakups and five tackles for loss.
