OGDEN - Joel Bolomboy had 22 points and grabbed 23 rebounds to lead Weber State to a 63-50 win over Sacramento State Thursday night at the Dee Events Center. The win moved the Wildcats to 17-7 overall and 9-2 in Big Sky play.
Weber State never trailed in the game and led by as many as 18 in the second half en route to their 10th straight home victory. The 50 points allowed is tied for the second lowest against a Division I team this season.
Both teams struggled shooting from the field with the Wildcats shooting 36 percent from the field, their second lowest percentage of the year. However, they held Sacramento State to 32 percent shooting and outrebounded the Hornets 48-39.
WSU was just 3 of 19 from 3-point land but shot 16 of 20 from the free throw line and had 11 assists to just nine turnovers.
Bolomboy posted his third 20-20 game this season shooting 6 of 11 from the field and 10 of 13 from the free throw line. He also tied his career-high with 23 rebounds and posted his 21st double-double in 24 games this season.
Jeremy Senglin added 17 points with three assists and freshman Juwan Williams came off the bench for 10 points. Kyndahl Hill had eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
“Our defense was the key to the game for us tonight and we needed it because we weren't shooting the ball well,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “On nights like that you have to be able to guard and rebound and I thought our guys did a great job of that tonight. Joel was terrific tonight and several other players really played well too. It was a great team win.”
The Wildcats will be back home Saturday night to host Portland State. WSU will retire the jersey of the all-time leading scorer Bruce Collins at halftime.
