Weber State picks up big 4-3 win over Idaho State

OGDEN - For the second year in a row the Weber State women's tennis team has earned a spot in the Big Sky Championship tournament. The Wildcats earned a 4-3 win over Idaho State Tuesday afternoon clinching one of the tournament spots with a now 7-2 record.Â
"It was a fantastic win today," said Director of Tennis Brad Ferreira. "Idaho State is a very difficult team to play. We played them earlier this season and lost 5-2. This time we won the doubles for an early lead which proved critical."
Weber State started the day out by sweeping the doubles matches. In the No. 1 spot, Kristi Elmer and Sara Parker defeated Nonie Alexandersen and Wjebke Boeckmann  6-1. The Wildcat team of Dominique Beauvais and Morgan Dickason picked up a win in the No. 3 spot next taking down Taylor Cole and Laura Guiterrez  6-2.Â
To sweep the doubles, Agata Bachanek and Devi Hasan defeated Kasey Bacon and Svenja Tegtmeier in a tiebreaker with a score of  7-6 (5-0). The Wildcats had the advantage going into singles play which became crucial in the overall outcome of the match.Â
The Wildcats struggled early in singles play with two early losses in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. In the No. 6 spot, Dickason pulled out a third set dfeating Laura Theus 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. That  victory gave Dickason her fifth consecutive singles win.Â
With another ISU victory the Wildcats were down 3-2 with two matches left to finish.Â
The entire match came down to the outcomes in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots.Â
Beauvais' match in the No. 4 spot against Alexandersen went into a three set tie breaker. Beauvais won the first set and lost the second. With the score tied at 6-6 in the third set Beauvais finished strong and picked up the tie breaker point for a 7-6 win and another Weber State team point.Â
Parker's match in the No. 3 spot was similar to the battle in the No. 4 spot. Parker's first set went into a tie breaker and ended in favor of Parker, after losing the second set, she had another tie breaker in the third set Parker came out and dominated the tie breaker to pick up the 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (4) win over Tegtmeier.Â
Beauvais and Paker's wins gave Weber State the final 4-3 victory over the Bengals.Â
"It came down to tie breakers in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots," Ferreira said. "Both Dominique and Sara came up huge with very well played tie breakers to seal the win. It was a really fun match today."
The Wildcats are now 8-12 overall on the season. They will next host Sacramento State on April 22 and Montana April 23 for the final matches of the regular season.Â
