Wildcats win 17-3 at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Weber State got back on the winning track with a 17-3 win at Cal Poly Saturday night at Spanos Stadium.
The win moves the 23rd ranked Wildcats to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Big Sky play, while the Mustangs drop to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Weber State totaled 340 yards of total offense and held Cal Poly to 179 total yards of offense, including just 73 yards passing, a season-best for Weber State. The Wildcat defense also had three sacks.
The scoring started when Stefan Cantwell found David Jones for a 25-yard touchdown. Cantwell then converted a two-point play go give the Wildcats an 8-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
The Mustangs got on the board with a 43-yard field goal late in the first half to make it 8-3 at halftime.
The Wildcats started the second half with a 37-yard field goal by Trey Tuttle, which gave Weber State an 11-3 lead.
Weber State started the fourth quarter with a touchdown as Cantwell found Drew Batchelor for a 35-yard passing score that gave the Wildcats the 17-3 lead.
WSU's defense than came up with three interceptions in the fourth quarter as Connor Mortensen, Xequille Harry and Taron Johnson each had picks.
Individually, Cantwell finished the day 14-of-23 passing for 182 yards and two touchdowns and had 11 carries for 54 yards. Treshawn Garrett led the rushing attack with 13 carries for 69 yards.
Andrew Vollert had four catches for 44 yards and Drew Batchelor had two catches for 49 yards.
Adam Rodriguez and Mortensen led the way with nine tackles each while McKay Murphy had two sacks and Kawika Tupuola had one.
The Wildcats return home next Saturday for a Big Sky showdown with nationally-ranked Montana at 2 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
