POCATELLO, Idaho – The Wildcats wrapped up their 22nd season of competition with a road point.
Junior forward Morgan Quarnberg scored for the sixth consecutive match and the Weber State University women's soccer team drew rival Idaho State 1-1 over 110 minutes on Friday night at Davis Field.
Quarnberg, the Big Sky Conference's leading goal scorer during league action, won the Big Sky's Golden Boot Award, which is given annually to the player with the most total points in conference play. Quarnberg's 16 points on eight goals edged out North Dakota's Katie Moller and Sacramento State's Kylee Kim-Bustillos, who each had six goals and three assists for 15 total points.
The match marked the sixth time in 18 matches this season that Weber State (2-5-3 Big Sky, 3-12-3 overall) has gone into overtime, with nine of the Wildcats 12 losses coming by one goal.
Weber State seized the lead in the 10th minute of action when junior forward Madison Garlock's initial shot caromed off the crossbar and came down to Quarnberg, who blasted it home from two yards out for the 1-0 lead. The assist is Garlock's fifth of conference play, making her the Big Sky's assists leader in league play.
The Wildcats dominated the opening 45 minutes, racking up 14 shots to the Bengals four, and finished the match with 27 shots, including 10 by Quarnberg, who narrowly missed several other quality scoring opportunities in the match.
Idaho State's offense got untracked a little more in the second half, but the Wildcats were just minutes away from a road shutout when an 87th minute penalty was called after an errant bounce struck the hand of a Weber State defender on the edge of the box, and the Bengals' Jennifer McCaw converted the spot kick to tie things up at 1-1.
Garlock's six assists this season gives her 12 for her career, tying former Wildcat star Jessie Baddley for the 10th most assists in school history.
Quarnberg's nine goals this season is tied for the fifth most in a season in school history, and her 16 career goals are tied for the seventh most in a career in Wildcat history.
