OGDEN - For the fifth time in school history, the Wildcats are conference champions. Weber State football claimed a share of the Big Sky Conference title with a 35-7 win over Idaho State Saturday afternoon at Stewart Stadium.

The win ends the regular season at 9-2 overall and a 7-1 conference record. The nine wins is the third most in a season in school history and the 7-1 conference record is tied for the best ever. It's Weber State's first Big Sky title since 2008.

Weber State will wait the announcement of the FCS Playoffs. The playoff section show will air Sunday at 9 a.m. Mountain time on ESPNU.

Saturday the Bengals jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but it was all Weber State after that as the Wildcats scored the next 35 points.

After an early ISU score, Stefan Cantwell got the scoring started for the Wildcats with a 16-yard touchdown run. Late in the second quarter, Cantwell found freshman Ty MacPherson for a 17-yard touchdown, then with less than a minute, Brady May scored on a three-yard TD run and the Wildcats led 21-7 at halftime.

Kevin Smith caught a 28-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and late in the fourth, Cantwell found Trey Tuttle for a 12-yard touchdown on a fake field goal attempt.

Weber State had 28 first downs and totaled 476 yards of total offense, compared to 204 yards for Idaho State. The Wildcats also dominated the time of possession by nearly 18 minutes.

Cantwell finished the game 21-of-29 passing for 262 yards with three touchdowns. He also rushed for 75 yards and one more touchdown. Kevin Smith added 72 yards rushing on 14 carries and Treshawn Garrett had 44 yards.

Drew Batchelor was WSU's top receiver with five catches for 74 yards, Brady May had four catches for 26 yards and Andrew Vollert had three receptions for 38 yards.

Defensively, senior Taron Johnson returned after missing the last two games with injuries and had two interceptions. LeGrand Toia led the Wildcat with 10 tackles with one sack and Jawain Harrison and Keilan Benjamin each had six tackles.

The win was Weber State's 16th straight win over Idaho State in Ogden.

The Wildcats have now won five-straight games. Weber State will head to the FCS Playoffs for the sixth time in school history.
