OGDEN - Weber State senior cornerback Taron Johnson has accepted an invitation to the 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl. The 69th all-star game will take place on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, in Mobile, Alabama, and will be televised on the NFL Network.

Johnson is just the fourth Weber State player ever to be accepted to the Senior Bowl and the first since 1999. He joins Lee White, who played in the 1968 game and Anthony Parker and Scott Shields, who both played in 1999, as the only players from Weber State ever invited to the Senior Bowl.

Johnson is one of nine players from the FCS division of the 37 players that have accepted an invitation to this year's game. The roster will eventually consist of 110 players.

Johnson has been named the 2017 Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection for first team All-Big Sky Conference honors. During the regular season, he led the Wildcats to a 9-2 overall record and a Big Sky Conference title with a 7-1 record. The Wildcats have been ranked as high as eighth in the nation.

The Sacramento, California native has served as a team captain this season and also led the Wildcats to a berth in the FCS Playoffs and a win over Western Illinois in the first round.

He has played in 10 games this season and leads the Big Sky and is sixth in the Big Sky in passes defended and interceptions. He has eight pass breakups and six interceptions on the year. He is also fifth on the Wildcat team in tackles with 39 and has two sacks and one forced fumble.

Johnson has played in 45 career games at Weber State and is the school's all-time leader in pass breakups with 41. He also has six career interceptions and 162 total tackles with eight tackles for loss and two sacks.
