Volleyball opens season at Sun Devil Classic

• The Weber State volleyball team starts the 2017 season with the Sun Devil Classic where they will take on Arizona State, Boise State and North Dakota State.
• The Wildcats ended the 2016 season with a 14-13 overall record and a 5-11 Big Sky Conference record.
• Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen is in his third season leading the Wildcats and brought back his two assistant coaches Kayla Morgan and David Gannon.
• Weber State volleyball was picked eighth in the preseason coaches poll.
• Weber State finished fourth in the nation last year in blocks per set averaging 3.03 a set and No. 17 in the country with total blocks with 309.

There will be two matches Aug. 26 one at 11:00 a.m. MST against Boise State and one at 3:00 p.m. MST against North Dakota State.
SERIES HISTORY - ARIZONA STATE
This will be the 12th meeting between Arizona State and Weber State. The Wildcats have never come out victorious over the Sun Devils. The last match between the two teams was in 2007 in Orem, UT. The Wildcats fell in three sets.
SERIES HISTORY - BOISE STATE
This will be the 45th meeting between Weber State and Boise State. The Broncos have a 28-16 lead in the series and the Wildcats are currently on a four match losing streak. The last match up was in 2011 where the Wildcats fell in three sets.
SERIES HISTORY - NORTH DAKOTA STATE
This will be the second meeting between Weber State and North Dakota State. The last time the two teams matched up was in 2006 where the Wildcats lost by forfeit.
ABOUT - ARIZONA STATE
The Sun Devils are coming off a 12-20 overall 2016 record and a 5-15 Pac-12 record. Arizona State is returning eight letterwinners and two starters from last years squad. ASU is welcoming 10 newcomers to this year's squad. The Sun Devils also have a new head coach this year in Sanja Tomasevic.
ABOUT - BOISE STATE
The Broncos are coming off a 26-7 overall record in 2016 and a 16-2 Mountain West Conference record. The Broncos also made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2016. Boise State is returning five starters off last years squad and returning nine letter winners. BSU is welcoming five newcomers.
ABOUT - NORTH DAKOTA STATE
North Dakota State is coming off 14-18 overall record in 2016 and finished 11-5 in the Summit League. The Bison are returning three starters and seven letterwinners and welcoming in six newcomers
MEET THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats return six letterwinners off last year's squad with three seniors, Amanda Varley, Jesse Hover, and Thamires Cavalcanti, two juniors Andrea Hale and Bailey Irwin with one sophomore Megan Gneiting.
The Wildcats welcome four newcomers this year with two transfers in Gracey Tuifua and Halle Evans. There are two new freshman on this years squad with Ashlyn Power and Kennedy Redd.
