Wildcats head to CSUN/Pepperdine Challenge

QUICK HITS
 The Weber State volleyball team continues with the 2017 season with a trip to California to take on CSUN, Northeastern and Pepperdine.
 The Wildcats are currently 0-3 on the season and are looking to pick up their first win of the season.
 Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen is in his third season leading the Wildcats and brought back his two assistant coaches Kayla Morgan and David Gannon.

CAVALCANTI COMING INTO 1,000
Senior Thamires Cavalcanti is one of the Wildcats top diggers and has been her entire tenure at Weber State. Cavalcanti ended last season with 338 total digs on the season and 931 in her career. She's recorded double digit digs in all three matches this season with 14 against Arizona State, 12 against Boise State and a season high of 12 against North Dakota State. Cavalcanti's 47 digs has brought her career total to 978. She's looking to break into the elusive 1,000 dig club this weekend in the matches at the CSUN/Pepperdine Challenge.  

SERIES HISTORY  -  CSUN
This will be the 14th meeting between California State Northridge and Weber State. The Matadors have an 11-2 record over the Wildcats. The last match between the two teams was in 2011 in Salt Lake City, UT where the Wildcats fell in five sets. WSU is only 1-4 when taking on CSUN at Northridge and are looking to pick up their first win on the road since 1999.

SERIES HISTORY  -  NORTHEASTERN
This will be the first ever match up between Northeastern and Weber State.

SERIES HISTORY  -  PEPPERDINE
This will be the second meeting between Weber State and Pepperdine. Weber State is 0-1 when taking on Pepperdine. The last time the two teams met was in 1986 in Ogden where WSU fell in three sets.  

ABOUT - CSUN
CSUN is currently 1-2 on the season and are coming off a three set victory over San Diego State. The Matadors currently average 13.3 kills per set and have a .251 hitting percentage on the season. CSUN averages 12.3digs per set and two blocks per set.
The Matadors are led by Aeryn Owens who's put up 51 kills on the season and averages 4.25 per set with a .282 hitting percentage. Defensively, CSUN is led by Katie Sato with 46 digs on the year and averages 3.83 per set. Melissa Eaqlin has racked up 11 blocks on the season so far averaging .92 a set.

ABOUT - NORTHEASTERN
Northeastern is currently 1-2 on the season and are coming off a four set victory over UMBC. The Huskies currently average 10.9 kills per set and have a .131 hitting percentage on the season. Northeastern averages 13.9 digs per set and 1.7 blocks per set.
The Huskies are led by Amy Underdown who's put up 29 kills on the season and averages 2.64 per set with a .137 hitting percentage. Defensively, Northeastern is led by Gabrielle Eyl with 53 digs on the year and averages 4.82 per set. The Huskies have two tough blockers on the set Natalie Shollin and Athena Ardila have each accumulated 10 blocks on the season.

ABOUT - PEPPERDINE
Pepperdine is currently 2-1 so far on the season. Pepp is coming off a three set victory over Fresno State. The Waves average 14.33 kills per set with a .257 hitting average. Pepperdine averages 13.5 assists per set, 1.83 aces per set, 14.58 digs per set and 2.25 blocks per set.
The Waves are led by Hannah Frohling who averages 4.17 kills per set and has a .277 hitting percentage on the season.  She's recorded six serving aces on the year as well as 34 digs averaging 2.83 digs per set. She also has six blocks on the year.

MEET THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats return six letterwinners off last year's squad with three seniors, Amanda Varley, Jesse Hover, and Thamires Cavalcanti, two juniors Andrea Hale and Bailey Irwin with one sophomore Megan Gneiting.
The Wildcats welcome four newcomers this year with two transfers in Gracey Tuifua and Halle Evans. There are two new freshman on this years squad with Ashlyn Power and Kennedy Redd.
