Wildcats off to Las Vegas for UNLV Challenge

• The Weber State volleyball team continues with the 2017 season with a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on UNLV, Louisville and UC Irvine.
• The Wildcats are currently 1-5 on the season.

CAVALCANTI JOINS 1,000 DIG CLUB
Senior Thamires Cavalcanti is one of the Wildcats top diggers and has been her entire tenure at Weber State. She's recorded double digit digs in all 5-6 matches this season with a season high of 23 in the five set win over Northeastern. Cavalcanti's 95 digs on the season has brought her career total to 1,026. She is the 10th Wildcat in school history to break into 1,000 and the first one to accomplish the feat since 2014.
VARLEY'S STRONG PERFORMANCE EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS
In Weber State's five-set win over Northeastern, she posted 19 kills and 10 digs for a double double and a .167 hitting percentage. She followed that performance up with a .219 percentage against Pepperdine with eight kills from 32 attacks with only one error in the course of the three set match.
For her efforts, Varley was named to the all-tournament team. In all, Varley posted 34 kills from 121 for a .140 hitting percentage. She averaged 3.09 kills per set and 2.27 digs per set.

This will be the 6th meeting between Weber State and UNLV. The Rebels lead the series 3-2 and the Wildcats are currently on a one match losing streak. The Wildcats are 1-2 when taking on the Rebels in Las Vegas and are looking to pick up their first win on the road since 2002.

Against CSUN -
In the opening round of the CSUN/Pepperdine Challenge the Wildcats fell to CSUN in three sets with scores of 27-25, 25-15, 25-11.
The Wildcats were led by Andrea Hale who had eight kills from 30 attacks for a .167 percentage. Aubrey Saunders had an impressive .571 percentage with four kills from seven attacks and no errors. Bailey Irwin had 148 assists to help out the offensive efforts.
Irwin also had the match high of nine digs for a strong defensive effort. Thamires Cavalcanti was close behind with her seven digs on the match. Hannah Hill was another asset on the net as she recorded four blocks on the night with two solos.
Weber State had 26 kills from 103 attacks and 15 errors for a .107 percentage to CSUN's 45 kills from 96 attacks and 15 errors for a .312 percentage. The Matadors out dug the Wildcats 50-30. Weber State had eight team blocks to CSUN's four.
Against Northeastern -
Weber State volleyball picked up their first victory of the season by taking down Northeastern in five sets in the second round of the CSUN-Pepperdine Challenge.
The Wildcats were led by Varley who had a double double on the night with 19 kills from 60 attacks with only nine errors for a .167 percentage and 10 digs. Hale also had double digit kills with 11 on the night. Ashlyn Power helped the offensive efforts of the Wildcats with 33 assists.
Defensively, Thamires Cavalcanti had 23 digs and Jesse Hover added 15. Saunders was a force on the nets as she came up with six blocks including two solos.
Weber State had 49 kills from 181 attacks and 23 for a .144 percentage while Northeastern had 66 kills from 194 attacks with 36 errors for a .155 percentage. The Wildcats had 86 digs to the Huskies 95. WSU had 15 team blocks to Northeastern's nine.
Against Pepperdine -
Weber State volleyball finished out the CSUN-Pepperdine challenge falling to Pepperdine in three sets with scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-21. The Wildcats had 26 kills from 104 attacks with only nine errors for a .163 percentage on the match while Pepperdine had 49 kills from 115 attacks and 14 errors for a .304 percentage. The Waves out dug the Wildcats 59-45 but Weber State came out with seven team blocks to Pepperdine's four.
Weber State was led by Gneiting and Varley who each had eight kills. Ashlyn Power put up 22 assists while Cavalcanti added 18 kills. On the net, Gneiting came up with six blocks for a new season high.
MEET THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats return six letterwinners off last year's squad with three seniors, Amanda Varley, Jesse Hover, and Thamires Cavalcanti, two juniors Andrea Hale and Bailey Irwin with one sophomore Megan Gneiting.
The Wildcats welcome four newcomers this year with two transfers in Gracey Tuifua and Halle Evans. There are two new freshman on this years squad with Ashlyn Power and Kennedy Redd.
