Weber State rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit for a 78-74 win over Northern Colorado Thursday in its first Big Sky Conference road game of the season.Â
The win is the third-straight for Weber State and improves the 'Cats to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in Big Sky play.Â
Northern Colorado led by as many as 12 in the first half as the Bears shot 60 percent from the field and held WSU to 37 percent shooting.Â
The Wildcats started the second half on a 14-6 run and cut the lead to two points at 45-43 with 14:03 to play. The Bears responded with a 9-2 run to take and 11-point lead. That's when Weber State scord 14 straight points over the next three minutes to lead 59-54 with under eight minutes to play. The Wildcats never trailed the rest of the way to secure the first road win of the season.Â
"We told them at halftime, 'let's go and blow it out. Let's go play, let's go find a way,' and they really did that," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe "I'm really proud of them. That's a good basketball team we played tonight."
It was Weber State's first win this season when trailing at halftime.Â
Weber State shot 48 percent from the field in the game, including 57 percent in the second half. UNC shot 60 percent in the first half but just 36 percent in the second half. The 'Cats tied their season-low with just three 3-pointers but WSU also outrebounded the Bears 39-31.Â
Four Wildcats scored in double figures and sophomore guard Jerrick Harding led WSU in scoring for the ninth-straight game, finishing with 21 points, with 15 coming in the second half. Harding was 8 of 12 from the field and grabbed four rebounds.Â
Zach Braxton added 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds on 6 of 9 shooting. Ryan Richarsdon added 14 points and made three 3-pointers and Ricky Nelson scored 12 points off the bench and was 10 of 11 from the free throw line. Michal Kozak grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.Â
Weber State continues its road trip at North Dakota Saturday afternoon. Tipoff with the Fighthing Hawks in Grand Forks will be at 1 p.m. Mountain time Saturday.Â
