Weber State snapped its three-game winning streak as the Wildcats fell 89-79 at North Dakota Saturday afternoon in Grand Forks.Â
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in Big Sky play.Â
North Dakota shot 54 percent from the field, the second-best percentage against the Wildcats this season. The Fighting Hawks were also 11 of 21 from 3-point range.Â
UND held a 36-27 lead at halftime. The Wildcats rallied to cut the lead to two points at 55-53 with 11:26 to play but that was the closest they would get. WSU trailed by four with 3:44 to play when the Fighting Hawks went on a 7-0 run to seal the win. UND made seven free throws in the final three minutes.Â
Weber State shot 43 percent from the field and outrebounded UND 38-39 but the Wildcats had 16 turnovers, which North Dakota converted to 14 points.Â
"Overall, it wasn't for a lack of effort today," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "Our guys came competed really hard. We've got a couple of guys that aren't playing really well right now, and we're on a limited bench and we have limited depth. We've got to get more guys playing better. If we do, we're going to be a pretty good basketball team."
The Wildcats were led in scoring for the tenth straight game by sophomore Jerrick Harding who finished with 22 points on 8 of 18 shooting. WSU freshman Michal Kozak had a career-high 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Ryan Richardson added 13 points with three steals and Ricky Nelson had nine points off the bench.Â
Geno Crandall led five Fighting Hawks in double figures with 25 points and also had nine rebounds and eight assists.Â
Weber State returns home for two games next week hosting Sacramento State Thursday and Portland State Saturday.Â
