Weber State falls 77-64 to Portland State

Weber State women's basketball suffered a long scoring drought in the fourth quarter of the game that Portland State capitalized on and the Wildcats fell 77-64 Saturday afternoon.

Late in the first quarter, Weber State jumped out to a five point lead but Portland State answered with a 6-0 run that gave PSU a 21-19 lead over WSU to end the quarter.

The Wildcats caught back up and the score stayed within one point for the early part of the second quarter. WSU put together a 5-0 run late in the quarter and took a seven point lead. Weber State held onto the lead for a 39-37 half time score.

With two minutes left in the third quarter, Weber State trailed by six. Jocelyn Adams sank a jumper and with the help of two made 3-pointers on by Larry Brooks the other by Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman tied everything up 58-58 going into the final quarter of play.

To start the fourth quarter off, Emily Drake drained one from beyond the arc and two minutes later Brooks drained another. Those two 3-pointers were the only points scored by the Wildcats the remainder of the game. Portland State held Weber State to a seven minute scoring drought and went on a 13-0 run to end the game with a 77-64 score.

Weber State was led by Brooks and Drake who each dropped 21 points for WSU. Brooks also tied the game high of seven assists with Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman also dropping seven.
Adams had the game high of rebounds pulling down 10.

The Wildcats shot 35 percent from the field, 35 percent from the three and 50 percent from the free throw line. WSU pulled down 31 rebounds, recorded 19 assists and 14 turnovers.

Portland State shot 51 percent from the field, 36 percent from the three and 89 percent from the free throw line. The Vikings pulled down 40 rebounds, recorded 15 assists and 17 turnovers.

WSU is now 13-5 overall on the season and are now 5-2 in Big Sky Conference play. WSU will return home to take on Idaho State Saturday, January 27.
