Weber State women's volleyball fell to Idaho in four sets Saturday evening
"We competed very well against a very good volleyball team in a hostile environment," said head coach Jeremiah Larsen. "We were a play or two away from going 5, but Idaho made more plays and were the better team tonight. I am happy with the direction we are going right now and we need to continue on our process."
Idaho went on an 8-0 run early in the first set taking an 11-3 lead. WSU brought the score within two points at a 15-13 score thanks to a block by Sam Schiess and Rylin Roberts. A late 5-1 run by the Vandals captured the momentum and WSU couldn't catch up and fell 25-18.
WSU started out with a 5-1 lead. Later Idaho tied it up and then took a 14-10 lead over Weber State. WSU had a 7-0 run with the help of three service aces from Andrea Hale and two kills by Hannah Hill-DeYoung.
Idaho was able to tie things up at 21-21 and Hale managed a kill that set up a block from Hill-DeYoung and Schiess. WSU had a 23-21 lead and Aubrey Saunders-Adams had an ace to bring it to set point. To finish the set, Schiess pounded down a kill for the final point and the WSU 25-21 victory.
The Wildcats trailed the entirety of the third set and were down 20-14 at one point. Weber State went on a 7-3 run to bring the score to 23-21. Idaho had the game at set point 24-21 and Kennedy Redd had a kill to keep WSU alive. Scheiss and Saunders-Adams then had a block and Hale had a kill to tie everything up at 24-24.
Rylin Roberts dropped a service ace to give WSU the advantage but a service error on the next ball, and a Vandal kill gave the Vandals the third set win 27-25.
Idaho had a two set lead going into the fourth. The Vandals jumped to a 11-6 lead in the fourth and then WSU found themselves trailing 20-14 for a second time in the match. WSU fought back and brought the score to 23-20 but couldn't finish and fell 25-20 in the fourth set.
Weber State was led by Hale who had 15 kills and five aces. Hill-DeYoung had 11 kills from 20 attacks for a .400 percentage. Helena Khouri had 28 digs and Ashlyn Power had 47 assists and 17 digs for a double-double.
Weber State is now 13-7 overall on the season and 8-4 in Big Sky play. WSU will take on Idaho State Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in Ogden.
